Queenstown Winter Event Guide 2019

12/06/2019

Winter season has officially kicked off over here with the opening of The Remarkables and Cardrona for skiing and snowboarding over the weekend! There was champagne, there were t-shirt giveaways and there was a LOT of stoke.

This year, there are more winter events than ever in the Queenstown area with something for everyone both on and off the mountain. We’ve added them all to our events page on Facebook as a handy guide to help you plan and make the most of all the festivities in Queenstown. We have over 100 events listed in our event guide and will be adding more as they are announced. Browse through our guide, click the Interested or Going button on those that tickle your fancy and good old Facebook will notify you of any new event updates.

Here’s some of our favourite picks:

For the Grommits

Kids Day Out at Coronet Peak is an awesome family event filled with fun stuff like face paining, colouring competitions, scavenger hunts, ski-doo rides and cupcake decorating. I repeat, cupcakes.

If you’ve got a little park rat in the making, check out The Remarkables Mini Shred – watch or participate in tricks in the baby park! For those that want to take it to the next level, there’s the GromFest at Cardrona where they can learn some new tricks and improve technique. It’s free and there are giveaways.

Queenstown Winter Festival

The Real Journeys Queenstown Winter Festival 2019 runs from the 20th – 23rd June. There are heaps of events packed into four days across the Queenstown and Wanaka region both on and off the mountain. There are fireworks, live music, comedy shows, long lunches and new for this year to Queenstown – Mardi Gras (which is currently sold out). There are also loads of competitions that you can enter if you are brave or you can stand on the sidelines for guaranteed entertainment. Our old favourites are back including the Monteith’s Dog Derby, Suitcase Race, Jucy Undy 500 (yes, actual undies), MoreFM Day on the Bay, Tour de Cardies and Macpac Mountain Bikes on Snow (or as we like to call it, carnage).

For the ladies

For the ladies looking to improve their skills in a super supporting all gals environment, The Remarkables have some fantastic events running throughout the season called Volkl Ski Queens and Burton Snowbroads. These all day events include everything – food, transport, lessons and bubbly. AND you might just finish your day with a new pair of skis or a new snowboard. How good is that?

Cardrona have a similar event running called Ngā Wāhine ō te Maunga (Women Of The Mountain). We love this one too as all proceeds go towards Boarding for Breast Cancer.

If you’re looking for something a little more relaxed, Coronet Peak are hosting a Girls Shred Night Ski. Hang out with some rad ladies and ride!

Winter Pride

Snow Rental are proud supporters and sponsors of this years Winter Pride 2019 which will be held in Queenstown from 30th August to 8th September. The Winter Pride festival celebrates diversity in all forms and has a massive lineup of events both on and off the mountain. You’ll the the rainbow in many forms throughout Queenstown.

Night Ski

Coronet Peak are running 31 night ski sessions this season which include three ELEVATE night ski parties where music meets snow. Some awesome acts have been announced including Hilltop Hoods and Kings. Watch the sun go down as you shred it up on the snow whist enjoying a Coronet Peak Pale Ale and fresh out of the oven pizza.
