7 Reasons Why You Should Hire Your Ski & Snowboard Gear In Town Instead Of A Ski Resort

We are so lucky here in Queenstown to have four amazing ski resorts surrounding us. Coronet Peak and The Remarkables are just a short drive from Queenstown, Cardrona Alpine Resort is about an hour away and Treble Cone is in Wanaka which is 90 minutes from Queenstown.
It also means that there are plenty of options when it comes to hiring your ski and snowboard gear. We highly recommend that you get your rental gear sorted before you head up to the mountain.
7 Reasons Why You Should Hire Your Ski & Snowboard Gear In Town
1. You'll save money.

2. You'll get on the slopes quicker.
By renting in town, you'll have your skis or snowboards ready to go the night before. Once you get to the ski resort, you won't need to faff around filling out forms and trying to get your gear fitted. Can you imagine that on a powder day?!? Instead, you'll be ready to shred it up - get the first chair and make some fresh tracks!
3. You may not get what you want.
There are times (rare but it happens) where it gets so busy that rental shops will actually run out of skis and snowboards. If you rent your equipment on the mountain and are wanting mid or premium gear and they run out, then you're left with the choice of getting beginners gear or going home. Neither of those options is great. But if you hire your gear in town, then you will have more time and greater options so that you can make sure you get exactly what you want.
4. More time to try on gear.
When your lift pass costs over $100 for the day, you want to make sure you are getting max time on the mountain! We think it's super important to have the right set up - the right sized boots, correct binding set up and of course the right skis or board for your riding style. You don't want to rush this process, getting it right will make a world of difference to your day out skiing or snowboarding.
5. Fewer queues.
If you rent your gear at the ski resort, you'll be joining the queue with every other person who is hiring their skis and snowboards at exactly the same time. Because they've all paid for that $100+ lift pass right? Getting your hire gear in town means that you can organise it at any time of day at your leisure.
6. You can have a day off.
We're not sure about other rental places, but we offer a discount for additional days of ski and snowboard equipment hire. We also allow you to have days off during your hire period at no additional cost because sometimes you just need rest days!
7. Choose your mountain.
You get the freedom of waking up, checking the snow report and deciding where you're going to go for the day because you have your skis and snowboards with you. Being able to leave your skis in storage on the mountain sounds like a great idea, but it also means that you're committed to that ski resort the next day. It's good to have options!
